• Habitat:
  • Found in the Indian Ocean, especially around Sri Lanka, Sumatra, and the Maldives
  • Lives in shallow lagoons and coastal reef areas

  • Naturally associates with the Sebae Anemone (Heteractis crispa)

Tank Requirements

• Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons for a pair
  Larger recommended if hosting anemones or mixing with other species

• Water Hardness: 8–12 dKH
• Temperament:
  • Semi-aggressive, especially when guarding territory or hosting an anemone
  • May dominate smaller or more passive tank mates

  • Best kept singly or as a bonded pair unless tank is very large

• Omnivorous
• Diet should include:
  • High-quality marine flakes or pellets
  • Frozen foods like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, chopped seafood
  • Algae or spirulina-based foods

• Feed 2–3 times daily for best health and coloration

Breeding & Spawning

• Egg-layers, can breed in captivity
• Exhibit protandrous hermaphroditism (start male, dominant fish becomes female)
• Lay eggs on flat surfaces near anemones or rockwork
• Male guards and aerates eggs
• Eggs hatch in 6–8 days

• Fry require microscopic food like rotifers or infusoria

Appearance

• Dark brown to black body
• Two distinct white bands:

1. 1. Behind the eye
   2. Mid-body (angled forward, characteristic of the species)

• Yellow tail fin and often yellowish face or pectoral fins

• Juveniles may appear lighter or have faint third bands that fade with age
