- Adult Size: About 1 inch (2.5 cm)

- Habitat: Endemic to freshwater rivers, lakes, and streams in the Western Ghats of India; prefers densely vegetated, slow-moving or still waters
Tank Requirements
- Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons (19 liters) for a single puffer; larger tanks (10+ gallons) for groups with plenty of space and hiding spots

- Bright greenish-yellow coloration with dark mottled or spotted patterns
- Males often have deeper coloration and wrinkles behind the eyes (used during courtship)
Distinctive Features

- Rotating, independent eyes similar to chameleons
- Capable of "hovering" in the water like a hummingbird
- Sharp beak-like teeth that require regular wear through snail consumption
- Known for their engaging and intelligent behavior, often recognize their owners
