  • Common Name: Mexican Dwarf Crayfish
  • Adult Size: 1.5 – 2 inches (3.8 – 5 cm)
  • Life Expectancy: 1.5 – 3 years
  • Habitat: Native to freshwater lakes and streams in Mexico, particularly Lake Pátzcuaro. They prefer slow-moving or still waters with plenty of hiding spots.

Tank Requirements

  • Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons (19 liters) per crayfish; ideally 10+ gallons for groups
  • Ideal Temperature: 68°F – 78°F (20°C – 26°C)
  • pH Range: 6.5 – 8.0
  • Water Hardness: 4 – 12 dGH
  • Temperament: Generally peaceful, can coexist with small non-aggressive fish and shrimp, though some individuals may nip fins or chase tank mates

Diet & Nutrition

  • Omnivorous: Yes. They eat sinking pellets, algae wafers, blanched vegetables (like zucchini, spinach), and occasional protein like bloodworms or brine shrimp. They will also scavenge leftovers in the tank.
