Life Expectancy: 3 – 5 years
Habitat: Native to freshwater habitats in Papua, Indonesia, including streams, rivers, and shallow waterways. They prefer clean, well-oxygenated water with plenty of rocks, caves, and hiding places.
Tank Requirements
Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons (75 liters) for one adult; larger tanks are recommended for multiple crayfish
Ideal Temperature: 22°C – 28°C
pH Range: 6.5 – 8.0
Water Hardness: Moderate hardness is preferred
Temperament: Semi-aggressive and territorial. They may become aggressive toward other crayfish, shrimp, or slow-moving tank mates, especially when space and hiding places are limited. Keeping them with appropriately sized, peaceful fish is generally safer.
Diet & Nutrition
Omnivorous: Yes. They enjoy sinking crayfish pellets, algae wafers, vegetables such as zucchini, spinach, and cucumber, as well as occasional protein-rich foods such as bloodworms or brine shrimp. They also naturally scavenge for leftover food and organic matter in the aquarium.
