• Habitat: Native to blackwater tributaries of the upper Orinoco and Negro Rivers in South America; typically found in slow-moving, tannin-rich waters with dense vegetation and leaf litter

Tank Requirements

• Omnivorous: Yes — accepts micro pellets, crushed flakes, and benefits from small live or frozen foods like daphnia, baby brine shrimp, or micro worms; frequent small feedings are best

Appearance

• Slender body with a brilliant neon green-blue iridescent stripe running from nose to tail
• Subtler red coloration on the lower body than the standard neon tetra (Paracheirodon innesi)
• Overall appearance is more luminous and slightly smaller than other neon tetra species

Distinctive Features

• More vivid green-blue stripe compared to the blue/red of Paracheirodon innesi
• Very sensitive to water quality and prefers soft, acidic, stable conditions
• Excellent choice for blackwater biotope or heavily planted nano tanks
