🌱 Care Notes
-
Leaf Texture & Appearance: Rotala indica (Green) is a bright green, narrow-leaved stem plant that grows in dense vertical stems. Unlike some other Rotala species, it retains its green color even under high light. It produces a beautiful bushy, vibrant backdrop when trimmed correctly.
-
Placement: Ideal for the midground to background in planted aquariums. It works well in nature-style and Dutch-style layouts, especially in groups to form green hedges or contrast with red stem plants.
-
Water Conditions: Prefers soft to moderately hard water, temperature range 22–28°C (72–82°F). Stable conditions are key to healthy growth and full coloration.
-
Lighting: Requires medium to high light to maintain a compact, bushy form. Under low light, stems may become leggy and sparse.
-
CO₂: Not required, but strongly recommended for optimal growth, better density, and faster development. CO₂ also helps prevent lower leaves from melting.
-
Fertilization: Thrives with regular liquid fertilization rich in iron, nitrates, and micronutrients. It absorbs most nutrients from the water column.
-
Propagation: Very easy via stem cuttings. Simply cut healthy tops and replant them into the substrate. Frequent trimming encourages bushier growth.
-
Growth Rate: Moderate to fast. Can grow quickly with good light and nutrients, requiring regular maintenance to keep it in shape.
